Definition:
Alternative investments are financial vehicles other than traditional instruments (stocks, bonds, cash or property), most commonly used to describe investments such as Real Estate, Commodities, Options, and Financial Derivatives. The term includes tangible assets such as collectibles, art, and antiques. Private equity, venture capital, and hedge funds are also sometimes referred to as alternative investments.
