Definition:
An Associate is a practicing attorney at a law firm who has not been made partner, and therefore does not get a cut of the firm’s revenue. Associates work on salary, which is commensurate to their number of years of experience. New admissions to the bar start out as First-Year Associates, and they typically work 8-10 years, at which point they are either made Partner, or remain at the firm in a senior position, Of Counsel.
